Intermediate Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineer - To $115 + super

Building Services Engineering isn't rocket science.

If you pay good salaries, you get good people.

And if you agree a sensible fee from the beginning of a project, you then get enough time to do things properly.

Established over a decade ago, this HVAC consultancy based in North Sydney has a reputation for making the impossible possible.

Led by a friendly and supporting Director who is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), NER-registered engineer, Fellow of Engineers Australia they believe if something is worth doing, it's worth doing right the first time.

Due to growth, they are looking for an Intermediate Mechanical (HVAC / Building Services) Engineer who enjoys autonomy and wants to work on complex buildings. Someone that values "proper HVAC engineering" where documentation is detailed enough that what gets designed, is what actually gets built.

As an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer, you'll work directly with the Founder and the senior team on design-and-construct projects from 50% through to construction, working closely with mechanical contractors along the way. This is a hands-on role with real ownership and you'll be trusted to run your own drafting in AutoCAD and Revit rather than handing it off, and to get properly involved in the nuts and bolts of how a building is delivered.

Having recently moved to a new office their plan is to double in size over the next five years. That means genuine room for you to grow with the practice and could suit someone currently at a larger consultancy who is ready for more autonomy and a bigger say in project outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Design mechanical HVAC systems in accordance with Australian codes and standards
  • Perform heat load calculations, equipment selection, and system scheduling
  • Produce your own design and workshop drawings in AutoCAD and Revit
  • Contribute to and coordinate multidisciplinary project delivery, working alongside architects, contractors, and other consultants
  • Support client relationships and communications under the guidance of senior staff
  • Conduct site inspections and surveys
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive technical documentation and specifications
  • Provide guidance and support to graduate and junior engineers as your experience develops

About you

  • At least 3 years of local experience as a consulting mechanical building services engineer.
  • Skilled in multidisciplinary design coordination, and comfortable working with contractors
  • High level of proficiency in English
  • Able to use Revit and Bluebeam
  • Good initiative, problem-solving ability, and time management
  • Pride in the quality of your work and a genuine interest in getting things right the first time
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency

Benefits

  • No expectation of overtime, they secure proper fees so the team can do proper engineering
  • Direct mentoring and support from a chartered director with 20+ years' experience
  • Meaningful involvement in diverse, technically challenging projects that get built, not shelved
  • A genuine growth path to Senior, Associate then Director.
  • A stunning office located 5 mins walk from North Sydney station
  • Fair salary package, commensurate with experience and expertise

This is a great opportunity to join a privately owned, building services consultancy and work on healthcare, laboratory, pharmaceutical, education, leisure and cultural buildings. In addition to HVAC design, you'll also develop skills in forensic engineering / expert witness, which will definitely set you apart from your peers!
