You do the equipment selection. You run the static pressure calcs. Six months later you find out the AHU you specified doesn't fit the plant room, or the controls strategy never got commissioned properly. You never find out, because your job stopped at the drawing.
This one doesn't stop there.
This is a Sydney-based mechanical services business working across design, estimating and delivery, with a steady run of commercial fit out and central plant upgrade and refurb work. As Project Engineer, you sit at the centre of all three - not buried in one.
You'll prepare and coordinate technical submissions, run equipment schedules across mechanical plant, airside, waterside and controls, and review documentation against NCC and Australian Standards. But you'll also sit with the Estimating Manager on tender pricing, scope reviews and value engineering, seeing how your technical decisions play out commercially. Then you'll support the Project Team on site, answering RFIs, working through constructability issues and watching your own documentation get built.
You'll represent the business in front of clients, consultants and builders. You'll forecast workload and flag capacity issues before they become problems. You'll be trusted with judgement calls, not just told what to draft.
Hours are 7am to 3:30pm, with flexibility around that if you need it - good if you've got a life outside plant rooms and tender schedules.
You'll need at least 3 years up in either a consultancy or a mechanical subcontractor. It's a broad remit. Some weeks you're deep in calculations, others you're pricing a variation or standing on site working through a clash. If you want a narrow desk job where you touch a project once and move on, this isn't it. If you want to actually see the consequences of your engineering, it's hard to find a better seat.
