A national building-services engineering consultancy providing specialist electrical design and full MEP service delivery across commercial, Education, health, and industrial projects. Strong reputation is built on delivering technically-strong solutions, working collaboratively with clients, and maintaining excellent outcomes through all phases from concept to commissioning.
In Queensland they now want to establish a strong base - with someone who will be the local leader building the business, not just the local hire.
As Principal Electrical Engineer - Queensland, you'll set up the Queensland operation, drive client relationships, and lead building-services electrical design across new build and Capex projects ranging from ~$500 k to ~$160 M.
Key tasks include:
Developing and executing the Queensland business strategy for electrical building services (lighting, power distribution, LV/ELV systems, building automation, etc).
Leveraging your own client relationships (or building new ones) to generate work rapidly.
Leading project delivery: from proposal and concept design, through documentation, tender, and construction phases - hands-on when required and mentoring others as you build your team.
Managing financials and P&L: budget forecasting, cost management, margin oversight - even if you haven't done it before, you'll have support and expectation to move into that space.
Building out the local team: hiring, mentoring and developing a team of engineers and drafters, embedding the national firm's systems and culture locally.
Collaborating with the Perth-based technical/drafting team for support, while setting up your local footprint (home or coworking initially, moving towards dedicated office as team grows).
Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) certification mandatory.
Existing Queensland (Brisbane/regional) client base or very strong local network in building services electrical.
Solid building-services background: preferably in Tier 2/3 engineering consultancy, where relationships drove the work rather than just brand.
Comfortable working independently, taking initiative, making decisions, and building something from scratch.
Enjoy rolling up your sleeves: though leadership is key, you'll still need to contribute technically.
Low ego, good communicator, team-minded, eager to mentor and grow others.
A leadership role with real autonomy: you'll drive the Queensland operation and shape how it grows.
Pathway to directorship and equity within 2 years based on performance.
Profit-share tied to state performance under discussion.
9-day fortnight after probation period.
Flexible work setup: home office or co-working space initially, with the ability to choose your environment.
Backing of an established national firm: you'll have access to technical resources, drafting support, and institutional systems - but your local operation will be yours to build.
