Senior Civil Engineer

A lot of senior civil engineers hit the same wall around year seven.

You're good. You run the job. But the people above you aren't going anywhere, and the next step is always "maybe next year."

Growth fixes that. And this firm is growing.

It's a civil and structural consultancy of just over 50 people, and it's hiring on purpose to get bigger. When a firm grows like that, more senior seats open up. The people already there are the ones who move into them.

A lot of the work is industrial and logistics. Warehouse estates, distribution centres, and the earthworks, drainage and roads that make them function. The clients are private developers who build big and keep coming back.

You'll own the civil design on large industrial and DC projects. Site grading. Stormwater drainage and management. Roads where they come up. You'll take projects through local authority approvals, write the council responses and technical reports, and be the person the client calls.

You'll lead a small team of junior engineers, drafters and designers. You'll review their work, give them straight feedback and bring your grads along. The directors will leave you to run your projects.

The tools are Civil 3D, DRAINS, MUSIC and HEC-RAS. 12d users are welcome too. TUFLOW or XPSTORM is a bonus.

You'll have 6 to 9 years post-grad, including solid time in Australia on private sector work. Industrial or DC experience puts you well ahead. CPEng and Design Practitioner are preferred, not essential.

The honest bit. You'll be juggling several projects, deadlines and people at the same time. If you want to stay heads-down in design, this won't suit you. If you want to lead, it will.
